Customizable Product Description With Rich Text Formatting
in progress
Djedjy Forly Hill Pierre-Louis
It would be super cool to be able to customize the description of a created product (bold, italic, etc.) very useful especially for physical product stores.
And, as shown in attached images, if when using the "product description" element, the formatting remained the same as when created in the products tab, instead of showing in the store as one giant paragraph.
Btw, the team is amazing for creating the "product carousel" element to showcase multiple photos of our products! Thank you team!!

The ability to add more description boxes might help - for example, I sell skincare, so separate boxes for product description / instructions / ingredients / size would be helpful - NO - it's necessary! It's a basically embarassing the way it looks now.
You all are doing a great job - I really appreciate the ability to make these requests and see them actually happen.

Font and style customization in products description

It would be nice to be able to have bold, underline and italics available in creating product descriptions

Not sure where to begin...
MARIKA CONWAY
The products area is very confusing. Variants, where they will go, how to manage inventory once it's been done one time...and mostly the way the product displays in a collection. My description has to include product description, instructions for use, ingredients and product weight/volume. I created it by using spaces, but it doesn't come out the same in the collection. Now that you all are focusing a bit more on e-commerce, we are going to need a way to describe physical products, especially consumables like foods / supplements / personal care items where ingredients and weight/volume are mandatory. People need to be able to "shop" from the site and choose multiple products.

Retain formatting in product description
Justin Vachon
wondering why the product description in the product section doesn't retain it's formatting on the front page? (line breaks, spacing, etc)
What are we supposed to do to retain formatting of product descriptions?
Here's a couple screenshots as examples

Paragraph and Bullet Points
Fou Rush
At the moment it is not possible to add bullet points or more than one paragraph in the product description. I think at least the paragraphs is crucial to an appealing description and would be very beneficial to users.

Hey Djedjy Forly Hill Pierre-Louis thank you for your feedback and making this request. I will let you know, this is rather 2 different matters...
1. Retain formatting
2. Description rich text.
We are already in progress on retaining the description formatting. That one does not need a feature request and we will let you know when that is released.
We can keep the focus of this request on adding Rich Text to the description editor.

When adding a product that requires separate sections for descriptions, it would be helpful to have those sections nice and neat and separate so they populate properly in a collection. For example, a product that requires a description + instructions + ingredients could have those be separate elements instead of one crazy paragraph. I know CF is mostly geared toward digital products and services, so this would be a nice move for those selling physical products.

Hey MARIKA CONWAY Thank you for your feedback and adding this request. I was able to create something in the description that seems close to what you are looking for. Can you see my 2 images and let me know if this will satisfy your needs? If not, could you please provide an example of what you are looking for? Thank you and looking forward to your response.

David Lamoureux (Product Support Analyst) So I did somewhat set up my description like that, but in the Collection , it's all jarbled together. And it's sooo much, I wish it were a bit separate.
Ideally, once we choose if the product is a physical product, maybe we could choose if it requires instructions, if ingredients need to be disclosed (such as any supplement / food / personal care item - anything FDA or USDA regulated), and the volume (must be in imperial units in the US, metric is optional but is obviously better b/c it's mass vs. volume/weight).
Can you see how in the Collection you can't even tell that I have spacing between description, instructions and ingredients? And I can only change so much about the text within the same text box; can't add any elements to one without adding exactly the same to all. The second image has my copy for the product. I did include spaces, and maybe that shows up in the cart, but it should also format in the Collection. There's no way to edit text to be bold/italic/larger/etc., so I can't even clean it up that way.
That gives me another idea! Having a box in a collection that is independent? A thing that doesn't auto-populate but still sits within there...?? That might solve this if the other way (above) isn't easier. Even if you have to add those boxes to the whole collection, but you can select to have the content unique to the one product. Might be messy, huh?
Just thinking it through!'
TY so much for listening, this is awesome. I have at least 3 cents to give on everything, hahaha

MARIKA CONWAY: Thanks for your response and great details! I see what you are saying now. I believe the best solution for this is to make sure the collection description takes on your spacing in the product description.
The possibilities for different specific types of descriptions are too vast for a realistic design, physical product or digital, that part doesn't matter too much here.
I appreciate your creative ideas, keep them coming, but adding a static block in the collection would defeat its purpose.
I'll be sure to pass this along for our dev team for review.

David Lamoureux (Product Support Analyst) So maybe the best bet is the option to add a field to the products pages themselves...I'm sure this will come up again as more e-commerce accounts come aboard. Obviously this field would have to be consistent across the products in each collection for the collection to look consistent.
I may have to work on piecemealing my own products page if this doesn't come to be, but that's looking a little daunting right now.

MARIKA CONWAY: Thank you for your response. I have done some digging and communication with our team and we are now looking to fix the spacing issue in the product collection description. Thank you for helping bring this to our attention.
In the meantime, what you could do is truncate the product description element so it cuts off before it gets to the spaces. You can truncate by line or character.
When someone clicks into the product, the description will appear as it should on the checkout element.
If you want to be notified of when it is solved, you can reach out to our tech support team and they can help you.
We can leave this feature request open for some time to see how many votes it gets.
