Currently, customers can opt out of Broadcast email topics, but if they are in a workflow that emails them every day for 100 days, their only choice to stop the email is to unsbscribe from ALL emails or to mark it as spam on their side.
Could we be allowed to assign topics to Workflows so clients can opt out of emails if they like?
Another example is I have a workflow that sends a recurring reminder email once a week for our team meeting. If a client doesn't want that email, they either have to manually let me know so I can manually boot them fromt that workflow, or they unsub from everything.
This is what the AI Help said:
They Can't Selectively Opt Out of Just That Workflow
You're right that there's no granular opt-out mechanism built into workflows like there is with Topics for broadcasts. A contact can't say "I want to stop this welcome sequence but keep getting other emails."
Their options are:
Unsubscribe from ALL emails — This stops all broadcasts, workflows, and marketing communications
You manually remove them — You go into their contact record and remove them from that specific workflow
They complete the workflow naturally — Once all the steps are finished, they're out
The Limitation
You've identified a real limitation: workflows don't have a built-in preference system the way broadcasts with Topics do.
This means:
A contact who receives one workflow email can't easily opt out of just that sequence through an unsubscribe link
Their only self-service option is the all-or-nothing unsubscribe
