Hey Funnel Hackers! Thank you for your feedback. We greatly appreciate it and we see it.
While we cannot yet move this request to planned or in progress yet, due to focus on other projects at this time, just know we are in the process of improving the checkout element already, among other areas of the platform.
In the meantime, here is a way you can do this right now: https://www.loom.com/share/d9d1556406e34ca79c69de6ab0696f3f?sid=6c46733f-4342-4f25-ad5d-44934a25682a
Summary: by using custom input fields and setting them to required.
I hope this helps! If you have any questions about this or need any help with it, please reach out to our support team for help.

Would be great to add custom fields to checkout form, for example "company name"

Great to see this update!
Quick question. Is it for the international community that is not American, possible to change the currency in the checkout to match the currency of our customers? Let's say to € instead of $?
D
David Lamoureux (Product Support Analyst)
Kelly Schat: Great question! The currency cannot dynamically change according to customer location at this point, it is set according to whatever your workspace is set to. We do have a request for that one already if you'd like to upvote it https://feedback.myclickfunnels.com/feature-requests/p/multiple-currencies

Hey, thanks David Lamoureux (Product Support Analyst) –
It looks like if we add a FORM INPUT, click the settings gear icon, and set the "Input Type" to "Custom Type", then a "Custom Type" input field appears in the Settings area. For now, are only strings accepted? If so, do we type "string" there since that's the "Custom Type"? Or, is "Custom Type" intended instead to be the "Field Name", like "Touch-up Paint Color Code"?
Is this documented somewhere? Thanks!

Jason Benfer: Sorry for any confusion here. Strings is referring to a constant string of text. The message has been updated to make it more clear

I just got an email explaining the work around (which I have already figured out months ago on my own) I have to tell you this work around is a real pain. I sell touch up paint. Using the work around after someone makes an order, in order to fulfill the order I have to go into the customers profile to find the paint code. And if they make a second order with a different paint code it overwrites the first one because for some crazy reason someone thought it would be smarter to make the custom input link to the customer not the order. This is not scalable for me and I'm currently rebuilding my funnels with your competition so I can switch.... Its a shame at $200/ month we are not listened to
Jason Benfer
I hear you, Brandon Reed. This was the same workaround support provided me as well. In my reply below, I asked David Lamoureux if there was a way to set up an automation or workflow that logged the customer's custom field completions somewhere (e.g. the invoice, or a note added to the contact record). Otherwise, the workaround doesn't really help if we want customers to purchase more than once. Let's see what he says?

Jason Benfer: Brandon Reed: Hey guys! Thanks for your replies and feedback. Yes, there is some automations you can do to save this data. I've made a full walkthrough video here: https://www.loom.com/share/c9acb2c3ce834d86bf1fd4cffc1af171?sid=5860b1ce-8419-4053-981a-fee8d89a7174
I hope this helps!
If you have different product purchase options, it may be solved by adding product variants. Have you thought about that option? Brandon Reed Do you have a select number of products to choose from or do you not know the paint code options they may want?
D
David Lamoureux (Product Support Analyst)
Hey Brandon Reed I just wanted to followup with you that your use case should be solvable by creating product variants.
Jason Benfer I wanted to let both of you know you can manually add notes to each order.

David Lamoureux (Product Support Analyst) Ooh, thanks for that idea! Can that be done automatically via Workflow? Otherwise, another order could come in and update the Contact custom fields before I have a chance to manually add the note. Which is where tracking custom fields on the Order is really powerful.
Regarding your recommendation for Brandon Reed, it appears each Product Variant can have some number of Options (e.g. Color, Material, Size, etc.) and each Option can have Values. It sounds like your suggestion may be to use the built-in Color Option and then add Values like Light Blue, Dark Green, or the Hex Codes / paint numbers. FWIW, in my testing it doesn't look like there can be more than 7 Values for each Option, so if he has more than 7 colors of touch-up paint, this might not work so well.
I'm seeing this idea "Under Review", so maybe it will be possible to add custom text fields (which could handle virtually unlimited touch-up paint colors without configuring each one ahead of time) to the Order sometime soon. Guessing they'll also be adding Boolean and Numeric options in addition to Strings.

Hey Jason Benfer: apologies for a long awaited response. I'm sorry, but you've got a checkmate there. It is not yet possible to save notes to orders via workflow. The best current option is to use Zapier to collect the Contact attribute data and save it somewhere you can easily look at your orders, like a Google Sheet.
What you really are looking for is this feature request here: https://feedback.myclickfunnels.com/feature-requests/p/save-custom-fields-to-order-instead-of-contact-attributes Please upvote that one as it seems like a very helpful feature.
This would best be solved with the ability to Save Custom Fields to Order Instead of Contact Attributes
You are correct about the variant options only allowing 7 of each type. I believe this was done to reduce load on the system. Imagine if you had 3 options with 7 values each. That would be 343 variant combinations for that one product. If you raised the 7 to 10, you would have 1000 combinations. It increases exponentially the more options you have.
I hope this helps clear things up!

July 18, 2024:
The fact that 9 other similar ideas have been merged into this one is a pretty good indication we have room for improvement.
Nearly every checkout I can think of has this feature: Kajabi, ThriveCart, Spiffy.co, CheckoutPage.co, Sellfy, Jotform, Samcart, Send Owl, Gumroad, Payhip...
See anyone else missing from that list? That's right, Go High Level (CF's nemesis) is apparently missing this feature. You can beat them to the punch and market it!
Yes, we can add custom fields to the Contact record, but then each order overwrites them and we lose the order history. I guess one idea is to buy ThriveCart to patch this up (they also have an Affiliate Program, can do upsells and basic funnels, etc.).
You can do this! Can we at least see it moved to Planned? Also, when implementing, please include the custom fields in the Webhook :)

July 20, 20234 (just 2 days later):
Thank you David! 🙏
I'm tempted to use this in lieu of spending $700 to buy ThriveCart (or $197/mo. for Kajabi).
If I'm understanding the workaround, one issue may be that with each order, if these custom order fields are overwritten on the contact record, and if they aren't logged with the order, then they get lost.
Upon placing each order, is there any way to run an automation or workflow that appends the custom instructions captured in the fields to the invoice that's sent out so there's a more permanent record of what happened?
Aside:
I'm really glad to hear they're sprucing up the checkout experience, arguably the most important part. For example, address is currently required for digital products. Some sellers are going to want this for tax purposes but others are going to be below these thresholds and may want to be able to turn that off to remove buyer objection points. I suggest checking out (pun intended) Sam Cart's slide in checkout with easy-add order bumps. Really elegant.
There's a ton I'd like to share with regard to my experience as a new user of ClickFunnels (who has used many other tools, e.g. WordPress, HubSpot, Salesforce, Systeme.io, Kajabi, etc.), but this isn't really the place. Email me if you'd like to set up a time for constructive feedback. I'm pulling for you.

and yes, we already have the request to hide the billing in the new checkout element: https://feedback.myclickfunnels.com/feature-requests/p/hide-the-billing-form-on-the-new-check-out-element
If you have more you'd like to share, the best thing you can do is make a new request or upvote the current ones on the board. Thanks again for your feedback and contributions to our community!

THIS! 100%. I need custom fields so that I can intake clients on more complex projects (most of what I do). I need to be able to add custom fields to the checkout so I can collect the data needed for fulfillment.

Europe's GDPR law asks for separate checkboxes for the Terms and conditions (which is already available in the Checkout Element) and Contact permissions. In particular, there should be 2 checkboxes in the contact permission section. Now we can only add the lead collecting checkboxes below the checkout element, which makes it very unlikely that they get checked.
Enabling checkboxes inside the first step of the checkout element would make it possible to use the leads collected.
